LEBANON Sidon Sea Castle 04

On our way back from the beach of the southern city of Tyr we stopped at the sea castle of Sidon and had a small photoshoot.

A bit of info about the site:
The castle is located in the city of Sidon (Sayda in arabic), Lebanon. It was built by the Crusaders in 1228 A.D. on a small island connected to the mainland by a causeway, the outer walls Roman columns were used as horizontal reinforcements, a feature often seen in fortifications built on or near former Roman sites. The castle was destroyed by the Mamluks after the fall of the Acre to prevent the Crusaders from re-establishing footholds on the coast. And what was not destroyed by the Mamluks was and is being destroyed by the continuous ramming of the sea.
